TIRUPUR: Three unidentified masked men struck at a house of a private knitwear garment manufacturing unit owner and snatched nine sovereigns from his wife at Pichampalayam in the city on Thursday.
The incident happened in the wee hours when R Thangaraj, 43, of Chinnapomma Naickenpalayam, his wife Parameswari and their two children were asleep. The three robbers broke open the front doors and gained entry into the house. They first stole Rs 5,500 from Thangaraj's shirt, said the police.
They then snatched a gold chain from Parameswari's neck. When she woke up and started to scream, the trio, who could be aged between 35 and 45, threatened her by showing weapons, said the police. The Anupparpalayam police have registered a case and investigations are on.
