Wardha to host int’l theatre conference

Nagpur: The 14th international theatre conference held annually in the country is set to come to Wardha this year.

Having been held at various cities across India such as Delhi, Hyderabad and Jaipur, it will take place at Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University (MGIHU) from January 15 to 17. Participants from Brazil, Poland, America, Germany and other countries are expected to attend the conference, said co-organizer Satish Pawade, assistant professor of performance art department, MGIHU.

The event will be organized by the performance art department in collaboration with International Federation For Theatre Research's Indian chapter, Indian Society For Theatre Research, Hyderabad (ISTR). Several topics surrounding performance in film and theatre will be discussed at the event. The main topic of the conference this time is 'Resistance for show or showcase of resistance: World perspectives'. Notable theatre and cinema artistes from the country and abroad are expected to attend.


Research topics can be presented on a range of topics such as theatre of resistance, potential places for theatre as well as resistance, cultural politicization and theatre of protest, violence and non-violence at protest theatre, cultural suffering, political ideology and protest, linguistic symbols, silent theatre, site-specific theatre, virtual spaces, social media, extremist resistance, literature concerning history of resistance, tradition of public protest, innovation and colonial and post-colonial theatre.


Scholars, researchers, writers, students and artistes belonging to theatre, art, literature, music, dance and other related fields can send in brief 500-word summaries in MS word format in either Hindi or English by November 20 and mail it to istr.str@gmail.com.


"I am a member of ISTR and been associated with the college since ten years. I wanted my department to contribute in organizing this conference and happy to see my wish being fulfilled," said Pawade, adding that the purpose of organizing the conference is to enrich academic theories, inspire new members and contribute in documentation.
