Cops to use drones in Allahabad civic polls

ALLAHABAD: Drones will be used for the first time for surveillance in the civic polls scheduled in Sangam city on November 26. The drones will be used in dense populated pockets to keep an eye on people including voters around booths.

Neeraj Pandey, in charge civil polls cell, told TOI " On the directives of state election commission, the department has mooted a proposal to utilize at least three drones on civic poll voting day". he further added " we have been drafting the plan for the utilization of drones at sensitive and sensitive plus polling centers"

The department had already identified as many as 25 and 77 polling booths as sensitive plus and sensitive respectively in city pockets.


Sensitive polling Polling booths have also been identified in Koraon, Jhunsi, Phulpur, Bharatganj, Mauaima, Lalgopalganj, Shankargarh, Sirsa and Handia as well.


Insiders, howver, told TOI that the department has three Drones including two small and one big and they would be utilized as per the requirement.


Apart from dorne, barricading and check post would also be set up on the bordering areas. Cops have already been asked to deposit the arm licenses and tightening the noose around trouble makers, people involved in arms and liquor smuggling .
