Pimpri Chinchwad: In order to make commuting easier within the city, the Pune smart city development corporation limited and the Pimpri Chinchwad smart city limited are planning to implement adaptive traffic management solution across Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad.

The adaptive traffic management solution is a system in which traffic signals are synchronised and they change based on actual traffic demand.

Neelkanth Poman, joint chief executive officer, Pimpri Chinchwad smart city limited, said, "The Pune smart city development corporation limited has submitted a proposal for implementing the system across the city. The same was discussed by PCSCL board of directors on Friday."

"The public transport body for Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune is same which is Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited. Also, both the cities fall under the same police commissionerate. Therefore, it is possible to have a joint traffic management system. Traffic signal synchronization and other works will be conducted as part of the project which will make travelling easier and comfortable in both cities, he added.

Nitin Kareer, president, PCSCL, who was present at the meeting, said it will take 15 days to carry out a technical study of the proposal and, then, take a decision on it.

Poman said, "Bids have been invited for appointing an agency to conduct area-based development of Pimple Saudagar and Pimple Gurav areas under the smart city project. Around 14 organisations have submitted their bids. The project management consultant appointed for the pan city development made a presentation and gave information about the works to be carried out as part of this work."

Poman said, "The board members pointed out that the gap of three months between two meetings of the board was too much. So a decision was taken to form a sub-committee which will hold a meeting on first Thursday of every month."
