Metro stations in Pune to get 'Puneri Pagdi' look

PUNE: Maharashtra Metro Railway Corporation (MahaMetro) has decided to give a unique look to different stations in Pune Metro project.

Puneri Pagadi (turban) is considered a symbol of pride and honor in the city of Pune. It was worn by many famous personalities like social reformer Mahadev Govind Ranade and Lokmanya Tilak.

MahaMetro's MD Brijesh Dixit said they plan to design some metro stations in Puneri Pagdi's style or shape.


MahaMetro officials are working on many concepts, ideas. They want to reflect Pune's historic and cultural legacy through structure of Metro stations.


Some artists and architects are making designs for roof top in the shape of puneri pagdi. It will be finalises in the next few months, said Dixit.


MahaMetro has recruited three companies for designing Metro stations.
