Event to include workshop

In a first of its kind initiative, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation is going to organise a three-day film festival for children on the occasion of Children’s Day.

Christened as the ‘Amaravati Children’s Festival 2017’, the event will see the participation of hundreds of students from the municipal and private schools.

Announcing the details here on Wednesday, Municipal Commissioner J. Nivas said the festival would include a film-making workshop in which children in teams would be trained by professionals from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.

“The festival is to encourage children towards creative thinking. As part of the festival, a challenge will be given to the participants. During the first two days, they will be given basic training in film-making by the teams of FTII. On the last day, they will shoot a film as per their ideas,” he said.

Children will be given film-making equipment by FTII and the topics for the film will be related to civic issues. Participation of more than 100 students is expected.

Also, national and international children’s films and documentaries would be screened to entertain and enlighten children.

Cinema stars including Nikhil Siddharth, Bigg Boss fame Adarsh and other actors, directors, screenwriters and producers will interact with the children during the festival.

The venue of the festival is the Thummalapalli Kalakshetram and the civic body is likely to spend about ₹15 lakh.
