The British science fiction show, Doctor Who, is all set to welcome its first female Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker. The first look of her character was released by the makers late Thursday. Jodie’s look is quite different from her male predecessors and with the TARDIS in the background, this look is transporting us to Doctor Who’s world. The fans are loving Jodie’s look as it references to elements from the previous Doctors. With the rainbow stripes on the jumper, baggy trousers, long coat and boots, Jodie’s look is a strong reminder of the legacy of the series.

Doctor Who first started in 1963. So far, 12 actors have played the role of the Doctor and the transition of the actor is usually incorporated in the pilot episode of the season. The concept of the show suggests that the Doctor takes on a new body to recuperate from the injuries that could potentially kill a normal human being. Every actor who has played the Doctor has brought their own unique take on the character. With Jodie, this is the first time that the Doctor is going to be played a woman.

Jodie is known for her role in the popular British crime drama series, Broadchurch. In Broadchurch, she starred alongside David Tennant, who played the tenth Doctor on the Doctor Who series. Jodie also gained recognition for starring in the Black Mirror episode, The Entire History of You.

Peter Capaldi, Matt Smith, Colin Baker, Tom Baker, Jon Pertwee and William Hartnell are amongst the 12 actors who played this iconic character in the past.
