NEW DELHI: The NSE Nifty50 and BSE Sensex closed in the positive territory on Friday, underpinned by gains in PSU bank, FMCG and metal stocks.

Extending the gains for the second straight session, the Nifty50 closed 13 points up at 10,322, while Sensex settled 64 points up at 33,315 on Friday.

In the Nifty50 pack, State Bank of India, with a gain of over 6 per cent, remained at the top.

Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Unilever, UltraTech Cement, Mahindra & Mahindra, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Auto and Power Grid Corporation also emerged as the top gainers in the Nifty50 index on Friday.

On the contrary, Aurobindo Pharma, Tata Motors, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Bosch, Bharat Petroleum Corporation and Reliance Industries settled as the top losers among the Nifty50 stocks.

The top gainer among the sectoral indices, Nifty PSU Bank index rose over 4 per cent, backed by gains in State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, IDBI Bank, Syndicate Bank and Indian Bank. Punjab National Bank, Bank of India and Andhra Bank were the three components in the Nifty PSU Bank index that closed in the red.

Nifty Pharma, auto and IT indices ended Friday's session in the red zone.

As many as 64 stocks hit fresh 52-week highs on NSE, whereas 19 stocks hit fresh 52-week lows on Friday.

Overall, 22 stocks settled in the green, while 28 in the red in the Nifty50 index on Friday.
