RAJKOT: The protests by members of Karadia Rajput community continued against state BJP president Jitu Vaghani on Thursday with people of Budhel village — the epicentre of the agitation — putting up posters and banners banning entry of Vaghani in their village. When police tried to pull down the posters and banners, the villagers opposed it, which led to altercation between them.

Vaghani is facing people's anger in his own constituency in Bhavnagar from Karadia Rajput community that is accusing BJP chief of being vindictive towards them. They have also alleged that on Vaghani's insistence, over a dozen men from their community were framed in false criminal cases in Bhavnagar after dispute over a piece of land in Budhel village.

However, Bhavnagar superintendent of police Pravin Mal said, "I have no information about this incident." Vaghani could not be reached for his comments.

On Thursday, police reached Budhel village, about 8km from Bhavnagar city, and started pulling down over half-a-dozen banners put up in the village banning entry of Vaghani. This was opposed by villagers who also entered into altercation with the cops.

On the same day, Vagahni's face in several hoardings of BJP across Bhavnagar with pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president Amit Shah, chief minister Vijay Rupani were blackened. The hoardings were located on Waghawadi Road, Pani Ni Tanki areas of Bhavnagar, which falls under Vaghani's assembly constituency. In 2012, Vaghani had won election with margin of nearly 53,000 votes.

BJP spokesperson Raju Dhruv blamed Congress for blackening Vaghani's face on the hoardings. "Karadia Rajputs believe in peaceful representation. They cannot do this (blackening poster), it's the Congress who is trying to malign the image of Karadia Rajput community," alleged Dhruv.
