Accompanied by their parents, students of Ramasamy Pillai Higher Secondary School at Ilanji near Tenkasi launched a sit-in dharna on the school premises on Thursday evening after a Tamil teacher of the school allegedly sexually harassed a girl student.
The protesting students and their parents said the Tamil teacher, who used to harass girl students, asked a student to join his private tuition centre for special coaching. When she refused, the teacher allegedly misbehaved with her, who alerted her parents and her friends.
Agitated over this, the students and their parents launched the sit-in dharna. As the agitation started, the teacher escaped from the school.
The protesters said the teacher, who was working on a temporary basis, should be sacked. Though Courtallam police held talks with the protesters even after 8 p.m., they refused to relent and the agitation continued.
