No more hand baggage stamping at Pune airport

PUNE: The Pune airport has decided to do away with stamping of hand baggage tags from Thursday.

The decision was taken by senior officials of Airports Authority of India in Delhi and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security. "This will enhance passenger facilities at the airport. With no hand baggage tags, the job of CISF personnel will be easier as they now will be able to concentrate on scanning and checking of hand baggage.

Passengers too will be at ease as they will save a lot of time and queues for security checks will reduce drastically. We received the order for implementing it from Friday. However, we have gone ahead and are implementing it from Thurdsay evening itself," an official said.

The week-long trial run for the same had been organised at the Pune airport from October 24. Until now, a total of 17 airports in the country, manned by CISF, have stopped the stamping process after trial runs. These include big airports at Delhi, Mumbai, Cochin, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Smaller airports like the ones in Patna, Jaipur, Lucknow, Guwahati etc have also done away with stamping. CISF currently mans a total of 59 airports in the country.

By having the stamped tags on the hand baggage, the security personnel used to be assured that no weapon or ammunition like material enters the aircraft. It also pin points the accountability on the CISF personnel who clear the baggage.
