‘Stalin is spreading lies about the governance’

THENI

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and his deputy O. Panneerselvam on Thursday said that the AIADMK faction headed by them would win the case before the Election Commission of India and get the election symbol of ‘Two Leaves’.

Addressing the MGR birth centenary celebrations here, Mr. Palaniswami said the symbol would be given to his faction. Mr. Panneerselvam, who spoke ahead of him, said persons, who obtained political identity and gained name and fame with help of Jayalalithaa and MGR, were trying to destroy the party with the help of outsiders. They would be destroyed soon. “We will win the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol and the good news will come soon,” he said.

Assailing DMK leader M.K. Stalin for staging demonstrations and blocking roads during drought as well as rains, the Chief Minister accused the Opposition leader of spreading lies about the governance. He alleged that Mr. Stalin’s sole aim was to dislodge the AIADMK government and people were aware of his political designs.

Mr. Palaniswami claimed that the DMK leader had failed to improve civic infrastructure in Chennai when he was Mayor and subsequently Minister for Local Administration. The DMK which shared power in the Centre for 14 years in the past did nothing for the betterment of the State, he further claimed.

Blaming the DMK for stalling local body elections through court cases, he said the polls would be held once the judges delivered their verdict.

According to him, the State government had taken a series of measures to drain rainwater from low-lying areas in Chennai. A 380-km-long storm water channel, which was under construction, was at the finishing stage. Extension of channel in North Chennai in the second phase would begin soon.

Mr. Palaniswami assured that he and Mr. Panneerselvam would function as a double-barrel gun and work for the welfare of people.

Earlier, Mr. Panneerselvam inaugurated a photo expo at the venue.

Ministers C. Srinivasan, K.A. Sengottaiyan, Sellur K. Raju, P. Thangamani, R. Kamaraj, R.B. Udayakumar, R. Vijayabhaskar, S. Ramachandran and Collector N. Venkatachalam accompanied him.
