Nagpur: Two more agents, Ashish Khare and Kiran Rodge, were arrested in the fake seal scam on Tuesday after the probe was handed over to Ambazari police by the crime branch. The names of the two were revealed by mastermind Nitin Wasnik, who was arrested on Monday by the crime branch. The three were remanded to police custody by court till November 10 on Wednesday.

City police crime branch had busted a racket engaged in preparing fake documents and certificates of at least 15 different government departments in Nagpur, Wardha and Gondia districts.

Seals of 74 senior officials, including deputy collectors, police station duty officers and so on were seized from the residence of Wasnik at Sanjay Nagar. The equipment used for preparing the seals too was seized from Wasnik.

It has come to fore now that Wasnik, who has a network of agents like Khare and Rodge, had prepared around 1,000 fake caste certificates in the last two years. The police are sending the hard-disk of the computer seized from Wasnik's residence for forensic analysis. They hope to find out the names and numbers of customers who had purchased certificates from these racketeers, and the nature of certificates delivered.

Amid speculations, the case was shifted out of crime branch and handed over to Ambazari police station. A senior official of the crime branch, however, said they would play a supportive role whenever their Ambazari counterpart need assistance.

"Crime branch has already provided the names of the agents involved in the racket, and also seized maximum seals and machinery used to prepare them. The police station can now take the probe ahead," said the crime branch official.
