What’s not to love when you have balloons, game stalls, food and great party music, all packed into one place? The Holy Ghost Parish Carnival 2017 is the place to be this weekend.
HGPC 2017 promises a weekend of wholesome engagement for people of all ages and communities. Proceeds from the carnival will go towards setting up a Welfare Centre for senior citizens and aspiring youth. Highlights across the two days include performances by DJ Ivan and DJ Mario, The Butterfingers, The Bangalore Chorus, MCs Jonathan Smith, Jake Texeira, Sharon Chang and Mark Rego, carnival games, commercial stalls across various brands and delicious food stalls featuring Goan, Mangalorean, Malayalee, Mughlai, Christmas sweets and chocolates and more. Other highlights include a day-long disco and all-day tambola, talent shows, scavenger hunt, zumba sessions, tug-o-war and fun squads.
Excited to be part of a programme like this for the first time, DJ Ivan says although this is not his usual crowd, “I am going to do it the way I know how to do it.”
Ivan points out that it’s going to be a festival sort-of, EDM kind-of sound and vibe. “We’ve got an opening DJ who’s doing a retro part with high energy to get the crowd together. We’ve also got a visual jockey adding visuals for the mix with big LED screens. So it will be a complete big festival experience which will be very interactive like a modern day music fiesta.”
He adds: “We want the people to go back with a world-class experience – in terms of the music, the visuals and the high-energy interaction.”
The 70-year-old Holy Ghost Church in Richards Town, is located in one of the most serene parts of Bengaluru. Today, it is the largest parish in Bengaluru’s Cantonment area.
The cause is significant, says Father Paul Thomas, the Parish priest. “We aim to raise funds to help the elderly and the youth. The young people will get career guidance training programmes while the senior citizens will have a free medical clinic set up for them for them as well as a recreational facility”
The takeaway is fellowship, he points out. “The fact that we can all come together irrespective of any caste, creed or even religion, is what makes this carnival beautiful. Even though it will be mainly the Christian community who may come, it is open to all. To build up community fellowship is our main objective.” He sums up with their motto: “There is something for everyone here. So come one, come all.”
