Two held for duping subscribers of Australian company

TWO PERSONS have been arrested from Kolkata in an alleged case of data theft involving Australian telecom company Teleminds Infotech Private Limited. The accused, identified as Ayan Srimani (22) from Kalighat and Behala resident Suresh Dutta (20), were arrested on Wednesday night from the city.

In a complaint lodged at the Bidhannagar Commissionerate on September 13, the company has alleged that the accused had called up its subscribers in Australia and duped them into providing details of their finances.

“They stole money from the subscribers and later, in the name of refunding the fund, they again cheated the victims of more money,” said a police officer.

The two accused have been arrested under sections 379 (punishment for theft), 408 (criminal breach of trust), 419 (cheating by personation), 420(cheating), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using forged document as genuine), 384 (punishment for extortion), 120B (criminal Conspiracy), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
