MSP for kharif crops approved

The Government of India has approved an increase in the Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for kharif crops of 2017-18 season.

Further, to incentivise cultivation of pulses and oilseeds in the country, it has announced a bonus of ₹200 per quintal for toor, urad, moong, groundnut-in-shell and soyabean and a bonus of ₹100 per quintal for sunflower seed, sesamum and Niger seed.

This bonus is payable over and above the approved MSP.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, the government has fixed ₹1,550 for paddy (common) per quintal, ₹1,590 for paddy (Grade A), ₹1,700 for Jowar (Hybrid); ₹1,725 for Jowar (Maldandi); ₹1,425 for Bajra; ₹1,425 for maize; ₹1,900 for ragi; ₹5,250 for toor; ₹5,375 for moong; ₹5,200 for urad; ₹4,250 for groundnut-in-Shell; ₹2,850 for soyabean; ₹4,000 for Sunflower seeds; ₹5,200 for Sesamum and ₹3,950 for Niger seed.

The MSP for cotton medium staple (staple length 24.5 to 25.5 mm and Micronaire value of 4.3 to 5.1) is ₹4,020 per quintal and ₹4,320 for Long staple (staple length 29.5 to 30.5 mm and Micronaire value of 3.5 to 4.3).
