GURUGRAM: A day after a Class XI student of Ryan International School, Bhondsi, was apprehended by CBI, a member of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), Usha Solanki, spoke to TOI about the first day in the child home for the boy who is the prime accused in the murder of a Class II student of the school, Pradhyumn Thakur, on September 8.
"The kid was sent to a correction home for three days, during which CBI is allowed to interview him during fixed hours every day," said Solanki. She continued, "CBI said they had some queries they wanted to make. Let's see what comes out from their questioning."
She said special care is taken when a juvenile is involved. "CBI can interview the kid only in the presence of a JJB member. They can't put pressure, be cruel with him or beat him. Even after the judicial remand is over, he will be kept under observation."
It has been a stressful time for the 16-year-old, said Solanki. "The youngster was scared and troubled. He will be permitted to meet his parents only after charges are framed against him. Right now, he doesn't have the right to meet his family, neither have we given him a counsellor," she said.
Any kid who is charged of crime is sent to the juvenile home in Faridabad. "We don't have a juvenile home in Gurgaon, so we send them to Faridabad. At the home, they are treated well. We ensure the kids are well fed, taught and given medical facilities. Counselling facility is provided to them so that they don't commit more crimes. The Faridabad court sessions judge also visits the juvenile home to oversee how it's working," she added.
