The Ford EcoSport facelift gets a new 1.5-litre petrol engine and a new automatic gearbox

The long-awaited 2017 Ford EcoSport subcompact SUV today went on sale in India, priced at Rs. 7.31 lakh to Rs. 10.67 lakh. The updated 2017 model comes with a host of new features, improved styling, revised cabin and an all-new petrol engine as well. We have already shared our initial driving experience of the new Ford EcoSport and we thought the car came with a lot of improvements. We have also told you everything that we know about the new EcoSport and all that now remains to be known is the price. We have shared our expectations with regards to the pricing of the new EcoSport and today, we will get to know if we were right or not.

The 2017 Ford EcoSport facelift also comes with a bunch of new features that are available right from the base model itself. Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, air conditioner, power steering and all 4 power windows and more are standard across variant range. From the Trend variant and above you also get a touchscreen infotainment system, 6.5-inch for the Trend and Trend+, 8-inch screen for the Titanium and Titanium+ variants. The system comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, and Ford's SYNC3 in-car connectivity system with voice control.

The top-end 2017 Ford EcoSport facelift comes with a new 17-inch alloys

Under the hood, along with the existing 99 bhp 1.5-litre diesel motor, the 2017 EcoSport will also come with an all-new 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol engine from the company's new line-up. Unofficially known as the Dragon engine, the new three-cylinder motor makes about 120 bhp and develops a peak torque of 150 Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard along with a 6-speed automatic dual clutch transmission (DCT) for the new petrol engine. These engines are one of the most powerful in the segment and offer great performance.

Inside, the new Ford EcoSport gets an an all-black cabin with the top trims featuring leather upholstery. 2017 Ford EcoSport front design

In terms of design, the 2017 Ford EcoSport is a lot identical to the older model but with some considerable tweaks. Most of these cosmetic updates is made to the front portion of the SUV like the new grille with chrome accents that gives the new EcoSport that American flavour. On either sides you have slightly revised headlamps with projector units and integrated LED daytime running lights. Another major change is the new front bumper which is now a lot more muscular and also comes with new angualr foglamps along with bumper cladding and a skid plate.

Transmission Options in the Ford EcoSport facelift

The diesel option paired with the 1.5-litre TDCi motor continues to come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard and we still do not get an automatic option, which is a bummer.
But the petrol version that gets the new 1.5-litre 3-cylinder motor comes with the option of a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic transmission. While the previous model used to get a 7-speed DCT unit, now you get a torque converter.
