AC rides to tech park along Nashik Phata corridor soon

PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: A total of 10 air-conditioned buses would soon ply along the 8-km-long Nashik Phata-Wakad BRTS corridor to Hinjewadi Rajiv Gandhi IT Park.

The buses would be procured by Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. Many IT employees travel to the IT Park from Pimple Gurav, Pimple Saudagar and Wakad.

The buses would start from Bhosari. Passengers can travel on AC buses by paying non-AC fares. PCMC would compensate for the revenue loss, BRTS officials said. In the last year's civic budget, then municipal commissioner Rajeev Jadhav had announced a provision of Rs 10 crore for procuring the buses, which would run at an interval of 30 minutes. PCMC would try to procure additional AC buses after studying the demand, civic officials said.

Meanwhile, PCMC is planning to extend the BRTS corridor from Wakad Phata to the IT Park. In the municipal limits, the route would be extended by 1km, and 6.5km in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation area.

Buses plying on dedicated lanes from Wakad Phata to the IT Park would come to the aid of IT employees. The municipal corporation is also planning to extend the route from Nashik Phata to Bhosari, a distance of 6km.

Bus operations were started on the Nashik Phata-Wakad corridor two and half years back. A total of 15 buses ply on the route at an interval of 10 minutes. PMPML had started 10 AC buses on Nigdi-Katraj route around three months back. BJP general secretary Sarang Kamthekar said commuters prefer AC buses while travelling from Nigdi to Katraj owing to limited stops.
