BENGALURU: The Kempegowda International Airport police have arrested an ex-serviceman for carrying two live cartridges while he was travelling to Pune. He was caught by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel during the security check before boarding his flight and was handed over to the police as he did not have a licence to carry the cartridges.

Badhe Dyaneshwar (60), who served in the Indian Army, is a native of Maharashtra and had come to Bengaluru to visit his daughter. On November 2, Dyaneshwar had to board a flight to Pune. He was carrying a handbag and during the scan, CISF personnel found two live cartridges. Senior officers were informed about the incident and he was interrogated. He could not produce any documents that allowed him to carry the cartridges.

A senior police officer said that CISF filed a case against Dyaneshwar and handed him over for further action. During interrogation, Dyaneshwar reportedly said that he had borrowed the bag from one of his friends, Shankar Singh, who was an ex-serviceman too. He had passed away recently and Dyaneshwar claimed that he did not check the bag before he carried it into the airport. Dyaneshwar also said that he had applied for a licence to own a revolver but it was yet to be approved.

Two live rounds of .22 calibre, two empty cartridges of .22 calibre and one head part of a 5.56 caliber round were recovered from Dyaneshwar. He was later released on station bail and the cartridges have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for further investigation.
