Last year, the city was treated to its own international short film fest — the Belgaum International Short Film Festival. Spurred by the success of the first edition, the film fest is back this year, for its second edition, which promises to be bigger and better.
Belagavi-based Niyati Creations, in association with Eyeline Pictures and Five Cubes Motion Pictures is organizing the short film festival. Being held at Lokamanya Rangmandir on November 18 and 19, from 6 pm to 9 pm, some of the best short films made from Belagavi, India and the world will be screened. The unique feature of this festival is that there is no competition.
Speaking to Belgaum Times, Shwet Priya, a team member, says, "Our mission is to recognize and help aspiring filmmakers and film enthusiasts from Belagavi to learn the craft of cinema. Through the film festival, we want to provide a platform to screen short films to a wider audience, help makers publicize their films and ideas, inspire the next generation of filmmakers to make socially impactful films, and encourage cinema that is commercially entertaining and, at the same time, artistically original."
Sanket Kulkarni, another member, says that Belagavi has seen a considerable amount of growth in the short films being made by the youth of the city in recent times. "Short films have become the easiest medium to convey any expression or thought. The Belgaum International Short Film Festival is a platform for these young filmmakers to learn about cinema and work on their skills," he says.
A total of 16 short films — which includes five award-winning films from the UK, Israel, Japan, US and Nepal, and 11 short films made by teams from different parts of India — will be screened over the two days of the festival. There are also five select short films made by teams from Belagavi that will be screened in the 'Belgaum Talkies' segment.
