Monsoon and winter session likely to be held for 10-15 days

The monsoon and winter session of the Assembly is likely to be held for 10 to 15 days. The number of working days would be decided after receiving clarity from the State government, said Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao on Wednesday.

He also appealed to the Opposition YSR Congress Party, which announced that it would boycott the Assembly, to attend the session.

The Speaker held separate meetings with Chief Secretary, special Chief Secretaries etc, police officials and Chairmen of different committees to discuss the arrangements and preparedness for the session slated to begin from November 10.

Dr. Rao suggested the police officials to be prepared to meet any exigencies and untoward incidents. The police would have to ensure that no organisation or association would reach the Assembly premises on the pretext of chalo Assembly. Usually, associations and political parties give such calls whenever the session was on, he said.

The police must demonstrate alertness especially with regard to the visitors. Last time, a visitor threw some papers from the visitors’ galley. See that such incidents did not recur. The staff of the Assembly, who would be posted near the main entrance gate, would assist the police in identifying the MLCs and the MLAs. The elected representatives would get upset if they were not recognised, he said.

Dr. Rao asked the CS and the officials to prepare replies to be given to the questions raised by the members. It was also necessary to give prior intimation on Bills, if any, to be introduced.

Dr. Rao, in another meeting with the Chairmen of the committees, suggested them to prove their mettle. No committee was inferior. Take the opportunity as challenge and see the committee got its due recognition. Necessary arrangements would be made in districts if the members wanted to visit them. The Chairman and the members must visit the districts to understand the issues and problems, he said.

The Opposition party YSR Congress had announced that it would boycott the Assembly session. “As the Speaker, I appeal to them to attend the session and use the Assembly as a forum to highlight the issues pertaining to their constituencies,” he said.

AP Legislative Council Chairman Reddi Subrahmanyam and others were present.
