A Karnataka BJP MLA has warned against celebrating Tipu Jayanti in the state, asking Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who first thought of it, to go to Pakistan.

Belagavi Rural BJP MLA Sanjay Patil made these remarks while addressing activists from his party, VHP and Bajrang Dal, who have been protesting against observing Tipu Jayanti.

Continuing his attack on the chief minister, Patil asked whether Siddaramaiah was born in Lahore or Mysuru.

In protest against Tipu Jayanti celebrations, Patil said that on that day, the BJP would conduct a prayer service for Chhatrapati Shivaji in every lane in his constituency.

The Karnataka government has been facing stiff opposition ever since they announced that Tipu Jayanti would be celebrated on November 10 every year. The Congress government, on the other hand, maintains that Tipu's achievements and contribution to the state have been unique and that there is a need to hail the contribution of a man, who put Karnataka, which was called the state of Mysore, on the world map.

Several programmes will be held to honour Tipu Jayanti in the state, but the BJP has been up in arms stating that Tipu was a tyrant, a man who killed several Hindus and Christians and also converted people to Islam. The BJP has said that such a tyrant should not be celebrated as a hero.
