Another city Congress leader resigns, says party ‘saffronised’

ALLAHABAD: Barely a week after its president Upendra Singh tendered his resignation after the party announced BJP turncoat Vijay Mishra as its mayoral candidate for Allahabad, City Congress Committee suffered another setback when the divisional president of coordination committee (Allahabad) Tariq Syed 'Ajjjoo' resigned in protest against the alleged 'saffronisation' of the party, on Wednesday.

Syed said, "I was feeling suffocated after the party's saffronisation. The mayoral ticket was intentionally given to a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) turncoat with an intention to divide secular votes and offer a direct advantage to the rival party. I had sent many letters to the party high command in Lucknow as well as in Delhi to act against those party leaders who had participated in an event attended by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat in Manda in September, but no action has been taken till date."

Syed said the Congress leadership in Allahabad has dented its secular image by fielding a candidate, who had been associated with RSS for decades, for the Allahabad mayoral seat. He also alleged that party had ignored loyal and committed workers while distributing tickets for the upcoming civic elections.

"There are still many leaders in Congress, who have been working at the behest of BJP, and as a result loyal workers are feeling ignored. More and more leaders would be quitting the party in the days to come as UP Congress Committee is least bothered to listen the voice of its own workers," he added.

A member of the party since 1984, the former Congress divisional president said, "After joining party, I have worked tirelessly to strengthen its base in rural and urban areas but the irresponsible behaviour of some leaders has spoiled its image among the masses."
