KOTA: Four newborn babies died in the past two days allegedly due to negligence and improper treatment in Jay Kay Lon Hospital in Kota.

However, the medical and health officials denied the charge of negligence. They said, two of the four newborns were low weight while two others were stillbirths (born dead). The medical department has formed a three-member committee to look into the cases.

Two babies died while undergoing treatment on Tuesday and two others died on Wednesday noon, following which the family members raised ruckus on the hospital premises alleging negligence and absence of proper treatment.

"The two babies born on Tuesday were stillbirths and such births are not counted as death," said Dr R K Gulati, superintendent, Jay Kay Lon Hospital.

"Two other newborns died today (Wednesday) but both of them were very low weight with severe breathing and lung problems," he said, adding that survival of such low weight babies with severe breathing complications was always hard.

The medical officer refuted the allegation of negligence and absence of proper treatment, saying that all four mothers were properly attended and treated on time.

One of the four mothers, Usha, a resident of Nayapura area of the city, however, said her baby could have survived if proper treatment was available. Another mother, Meeta, who was admitted in the hospital after being referred from Baran, too alleged lack of treatment on time.
