Maharashtra: Newly inducted six Shiv Sena corporators to attend hearing of poaching

Mumbai: The six councillors who joined the ruling Shiv Sena party recently after defecting from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) would be attending the hearing scheduled on November 14 by the Konkan Bhavan commission.
After the induction, Sena strength increased to 89 in the civic corporation against the second largest party Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP). However, before BJP could play their cards the Sena poached MNS corporators bringing down the party strength from seven to only one.

A senior civic officer from the Konkan Bhavan division confirmed that the hearing has been scheduled. “During the hearing, six corporators and the MNS party leaders who filed a plea before the commission will also be present and a decision regarding same will be taken,” he added.
Earlier, a letter of clarification was also issued to the corporators by the commission which later turned out to be a rumour. Dilip Lande, group leader of MNS, however, rubbished the rumours and remarked they have fulfilled the criteria of two-third strength of party corporators required before defecting and joining any other party. Currently, the inducted corporators due to MNS leaders’ plea before the commission and also due to the pending decision are unable to attend the committee meetings like a standing committee, improvements committee, etc.
