NOIDA: Parents of students of the Khaitan School Noida who are yet to pay the third quarter fees have been receiving mails from the school asking them not to send their children to school from November 20 as their names would be struck off the rolls from November 18 in case they fail to submit the fee.
The email further says in case the parents send their ward," they will be entirely responsible for any embarrassment that may be faced by your ward."
According to the parent, the e-mails have been sent to a group of over 10 parents on November 6 by the Principal of the school D Kaur, who has said that the communication from the school is in continuation to the fee reminders dated 6/10/17, 16/10/17 and 26/10/17.
The last date of paying third quarter fee as per the school almanac was October 15.
"You are once again reminded that as per school fee rules given in the almanac, the name of your ward will be struck off the rolls from 18th Nov.'17. You are advised not to send your ward to the school from 20th Nov.'17 in case of non-payment of fees with late payment fine. In case you send your ward , you will be entirely responsible for any embarrassment that may be faced by your ward," reads the email, accessed by TOI.
"This is almost like a threat to the parents which we do not expect. It is not just morally wrong but also legally incorrect. Many parents have submitted to fee due to these threatening mails," a parent who received the mail told TOI.
While the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has warned schools affiliated to it to eradicate corporal punishment, the Right to Education Act defines corporal punishment as physical or mental harassment and is illegal and liable to punishment under sections 17(1) and 17(2).
Parents have not submitted the fees owing to their protest against the fee hike affected by the school and had insisted to pay fee according to the old fee structure.
Parents said that while the school has hiked the fee by almost 16.7 per cent in the preparatory classes, the hike for other classes is around 15 per cent.
They said that in the last four years, the school has increased the fees by 43 per cent while the total hike in the fee from 2011 has been around 83 per cent.
Parents of the children studying in the school have repeatedly protested against the fee hike and had also met the district magistrate BN Singh and raised the issue with him who had said that no school can harass the kids.
Meanwhile,in an e-mail response to TOI on Wednesday, principal D Kaur said that the fee reminder mail sent by the school to a few parents is "neither immoral nor illegal."
"All parents are fully aware of fee payment rules as the same are explicitly shared with each parent at the time of admission and are clearly mentioned in the school almanac. Conscious noncompliance of fee payment rules can be termed as immoral/illegal. We send reminders only to those few parents who do not comply with fee payment rules as per school policy," she told TOI.
