With respect to the case of misbranding of the product referred as Amway Safed Musel, this was already given a clean chit by the prevention of food adulteration court, said Amway.
The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has asked direct selling firm Amway not to sell two of products, which it has alleged are misbranded and adulterated, and levied a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the company for ‘unfair trade practices’.

The two products in question are Madrid Safed Musli and Kohinoor Ginger Garlic Paste, and the commission has asked Amway to remove these from the market within six weeks. It has also directed the company to issue corrective ads on the same.

Terming the NCDRC as based on ‘mis-appreciation of facts’, Amway said in a statement: “We are not in agreement with the order and are exploring legal remedies available to us. We are confident that we will be able to defend ourselves.” It said it was “never the manufacturer of Kohinoor Ginger Garlic paste and has never been intimated regarding any case filed for alleged violation of the prevention of the food adulteration act”. Amway added: “With respect to the case of misbranding of the product referred as Amway Safed Musel, this was already given a clean chit by the prevention of food adulteration court in 2015 upon proper adjudication of the matter on merits.”
