PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is planning to create a separate cell to attract tourists on foreign cruise ships. It is appointing an agency to attract European tourists to the state.
Speaking to TOI, the managing director of MTDC, Vijay Waghmare, said, "The appointment of an agency is a way of attracting European tourists to the state. We had participated in the recently held World Tourism Exhibition at London and another similar exhibition in Macau. We have develop business contacts through these exhibitions. But we are unable to follow-up with them for increasing tourist inflow in the state. This agency will develop these contacts and promote our state in European countries."
The MTDC has invited Expression of Interest (EoI) till November 10, 2017, for the appointment of an agency for publicity, promotion and marketing of tourism products and other features of the state.
The objective behind it is to increase international footfall. "If any foreign cruise ship is coming to India or the state, we will contact them and try to have a tie-up, so that the travellers visit the tourist spots in the state. We will also attempt to make their visit to various tourist spots a comfortable one," Waghmare said.
