Karnataka State Cooperative Horticulture Federation Ltd is planning to open outlets for organic horticulture produces in all districts, according to Basavaraj R Patil, president of the federation.

Inaugurating the organic ‘Amrutha’ retail outlet for horticulture produces in Mangaluru on Wednesday, he said that there have been demands from various districts to set up such outlets.

Organic horticulture produces and millets are being marketed at the ‘Amrutha’ outlet in Mangaluru. Similar outlets have been opened in Chitradurga and Gulbarga.

He said that the federation has sanctioned ₹30 lakh for the automation of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi HOPCOMS (Horticultural Producers’ Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society). The society has 16 outlets in these two districts.

Apart from this, ₹40 lakh will be spent on the establishment of a horticulture produces procurement centre and retail outlet at Baindoor in Udupi district, he said.

Kavitha Sanil, Mangaluru Mayor, who inaugurated the ‘Amrutha’ outlet, urged the federation to set up such outlets in other parts of the city also.

Patil said that federation will consider the request, if the corporation provides the land for such outlets.

Anilraj DM, president of the Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikmagaluru regional horticulture federation, said that weekly organic produce market, which was opened in Udupi city recently, has been receiving good feedbacks from the consumers.
