Nagpur: A 38-year-old builder lost Rs11 lakh to tricksters, including a godman, who had assured to multiply the money 100 times using black magic and rituals, on Tuesday. The tricksters took the amount to Dighori graveyard on the pretext of a puja, but vanished with the cash in a four-wheeler with an Andhra Pradesh number plate. The matter was reported to Hudkeshwar police.

Cops said Vinod Bondre, resident of Telephone Nagar, has a real estate office in Pande Complex at Dighori Naka. Ram Randhai, who worked as middle man in land deals, told Bondre that a godman, identified as Ram Solanki, could turn Rs1 lakh into Rs100 crore. Bondre trusted Randhai and showed interest in getting some easy money.

Some days back, Randhai took Rs3,000 from Bondre and went with an unknown friend to Patanbori in Yavatmal, where the godman allegedly stays, to book dates for the rituals, said cops. When Solanki demanded Rs5,000 for the rituals, Randhai gave the additional Rs2,000 himself.

On Tuesday afternoon, Solanki and three other accomplices reached Bondre's office. The tricksters made all the arrangements for a puja and kept Rs11 lakh on it. Solanki performed the rituals and chanted mantras in the presence of Bondre and Randhai, said cops.

Later, Solanki told Bondre that if he wanted to get early results, they needed to take the cash to a graveyard. Bondre sent Randhai along with the tricksters to Dighori graveyard. While performing the final stage of the rituals, Solanki told Randhai he forgot to bring one of the important ingredients for the puja from the office.

Solanki then sent Randhai back to the office along with an accomplice. Midway, the unidentified accomplice stopped Randhai's two-wheeler and told him to reach office alone. He promised to reach the office in some time. Randhai claims that he also saw the black Scorpio with AP registration number pass him on the way.

In the office, Bondre asked Randhai about the money, and realized their mistake. The duo rushed to the graveyard but by that time the tricksters had fled along with the cash. The duo searched for the four-wheeler for some time, and then approached Sonegaon police station, which told them to lodge a complaint at Hudkeshwar police station.

Cops have sent a team to Patanbori and are developing sketches of the accused.
