Diptarka Ghosh, a stand-up comedian who grew up in Bengluru, entered the funny business in December 2014. “I worked with Kannan Gill and Biswa Kalyan Rath, produced videos for them and also was featured in some. While working with them, I would crack jokes on Biswa all the time and Kannan urged me to bring my humour to the stage. And, I did.” says the comedian, who has been featured on the famous YouTube show — Son of Abish and also with Kenny Sebastian.
Diptarka hosted Bengaluru’s first live Comedy talk show titled Woah, that’s Deep!. His most successful episode from the series featured Raghu Dixit and Sandeep Rao. Known for his Facebook live videos, where he performs songs online on request.
He also explains what makes his shows different from the others with, “I incorporate music into my comedy and also play the piano and guitar, besides cracking a few one-liners. That eventually earned me the title ‘Gareebo Ka Kenny Sebastian’”.
The man, known to tickle your funny bones, tells us about his initial struggles as a stand-up comedian. He feels he joined the industry “at the right time, when the entry-points were easy and stand-up was still building up as a profession”. In spite of being involved in photography and videography, I was terrified when I had my first open-mic at Take 5. It was just a five-minute spot, and I simply froze after the first thirty-seconds after the sudden realisation that I was doing my punch-lines before my jokes.”
