After promising to make an announcement about his entry into Tamil Nadu politics on his birthday, actor Kamal Haasan on Tuesday announced the rollout of an application “Maiam Whistle” in January, which will be a platform for people to connect and discuss social issues.
“This is not just a mobile application. It is a digital platform to understand people’s problems. Everyone has this feeling — a regret — that things are going wrong continuously, unstoppably. It is a platform for ‘whistle blowing’ and an effort to strengthen the voices of truth and make politics virtuous again. People can use it even to criticise me,” he said, at the event organised on his birthday.
Speaking about when he would announce his political party and what it would stand for, he said, “This app is just a part of my efforts. I am speaking to experts and from January, I will start touring Tamil Nadu to meet the people. I will announce the party after that,” he said.
“I have already said that I have already entered politics. I am here,” he added.
Actor Kamal Haasan further promised ‘clean politics’. “I will refuse tainted money if offered. I will seek funds from the same people who fill up the coffers when the bad government empties it,” he said. Specifically, he said that there would be no place in his party for people with criminal cases on them.
Reiterating his earlier stated position that he would rather be in the centre than be on the Left or Right, he said: “I would rather be in the centre, which I think most people want to be.”
Further more, he rubbished the notion that he was favouring members from the upper caste communities. “First, let the upper castes accept me. I have friends from all communities. Moreover, I am being projected as a Hindu-hater. Of course, I was born into an upper caste community – I am neither proud of it nor am I ashamed of it,” he said.
