India and Belgium must continue to learn from each other and benefit from each other's strengths towards addressing common challenges, King Philippe of Belgium said on Wednesday.

The importance of innovation exchange across borders is immeasurable, Bernard Giliot, president of the Federation of Enterprises in Belgium said, adding that India and Belgium must combine their strengths towards fostering greater innovation.

“Exchanging knowledge and experience is more crucial now than ever,” King Philippe said while addressing industry leaders at a CII event. “Improving infrastructure connections and logistics, transforming urban centres into smart cities, optimum energy production and preserving the environment in the context of demographic growth are some of the challenges we share.”

“As in other periods of history, we must continue to learn from each other and take advantage of our strengths,” he added.

“India and Europe in particular have a long track record of interconnection and mutual strengthening,” King Philippe added. “Today, however, this fruitful interaction is not only easier than ever, but also more necessary than ever.”

“Innovation is the driving force to make our lives safer and better,” Mr. Giliot said, also speaking at the event. “Belgium is recognised for its contributions to innovation. The WEF report ranks Belgian education 11th worldwide. We are the preferred R&D destination in the world due to our high-quality talent.”

“The importance of innovation exchange across borders is immeasurable,” Mr. Giliot added. “Knowledge should not have borders. India and Belgium’s strengths must combine towards innovation.”
