The Tiruchi Corporation on Tuesday slapped a fine of ₹1 lakh on the owner of a multi-storey building under construction at Chinna Milaguparai in the city for failing to remove mosquito breeding sources in the building. Cases of fever had been reported from there.
The penalty was levied after Corporation Commissioner-cum-Special Officer N.Ravichandran detected mosquito larvae in stagnant water inside the unfinished building.
Since the owner had failed to remove the breeding sources even after being issued notices for the same, the civic body levied a hefty fine on the owner, he said.
Corporation sanitary workers carried out anti-mosquito fogging and cleaning drive in the area.
Mr. Ravichandran appealed to owners and builders to ensure that fresh water was not allowed to remain stagnant in buildings uner construction.
If the Corporation detected mosquito breeding sources in such buildings, they would be removed and the cost collected from the persons concerned. Besides, criminal action would be initiated under the Public Health Act, the Collector warned.
The Collector appealed to residents to extend their full cooperation to the steps taken to prevent the spread of dengue.
Later, Mr. Ravichandran inspected the desilting work on Kathirikai Vaical.
