SURAT: Police booked two men, including a financer, for allegedly planning an attack and kidnapping of latter's brother-in-law and his son at Athwa police station on Tuesday. While one of the accused has been arrested, another is still absconding.
Police booked Jitesh Randeri and Pappu Gaikwad for planning the attack and kidnapping. Police booked the accused for criminal intimidation and criminal conspiracy. Of the accused, Gaikwad was arrested by the police. The complaint was lodged by a fish trader Fenish Manwawala. Manwawala and Randeri's wives are sisters.
Police investigation revealed that Randeri, a financer, had developed some disputes with his wife since last few months so were living separately. Randeri, a resident of Nanpura, said provocation by Manwawala's wife is the cause of his dispute with his wife. Hence, he was planning to ruin Manwawala, a resident of Nanpura, since past few days.
In October, Randeri called Gaikwad, a garage mechanic, and offered him a contract to attack and kidnap the complainant and his son. Gaikwad had borrowed Rs 25,000 from Randeri in past and was unable to repay the loan. Randeri offered to waive off the loan amount and pay Rs 5 lakh more for attacking the complainant.
Gaikwad was shocked by Randeri's offer, but did nothing. Fearing for Manwawala's life and pressure from Randeri compelled Gaikwad to inform a relative of Manwawala about the plan. Later, the family approached the police and lodged a complaint.
"We have arrested one accused, while the search for key accused is on," the police said.
