India elated at Mary Kom’s accomplishments, says Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated MC Mary Kom on winning a historic fifth gold medal at the Asian Women's Boxing Championships.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the congratulatory wishes on Twitter after MC Mary Kom won a historic fifth gold medal at the Asian Women’s Boxing Championships in Vietnam on Wednesday.

After Mary displayed spectacular skills to claim the gold medal in a unanimous 5-0 verdict, Modi tweeted, “Congratulations Mary Kom for clinching the gold at the ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships. India is elated at your accomplishment. @MangteC”

Olympic bronze medallist and five-time World Champions Mary beat North Korea’s Kim Hyang Mi to win her first international gold medal since the 2014 Asian Games and her first medal in over a year.

Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore also congratulated the boxer in a tweet, saying, “What a heroic performance & what a comeback! CONGRATS @MangteC for FIFTH Gold in #AsianBoxingChampionships! Keep the tricolor flying high, champion!”
