Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai stalls Hindi remake of Malayalam hit Take Off

Ali Abbas Zafar’s Tiger Zinda Hai is set to hit the screens o n December 22.

A day after Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai was released, the filmmakers of Malayalam film Take Off have revealed that they have dropped the idea of remaking their blockbuster film in Hindi.

Director Mahesh Narayan has shelved the Hindi remake because even Tiger Zinda Hai revolves around similar incidents that were grippingly portrayed in Take Off, which released earlier this year.

The talks for the Hindi remake of Malayalam film was in the last stages. Jet Airways was expected to venture into filmmaking business by bankrolling the Hindi version of Take Off, reported Manorama Online.

Take off was based on real-life events involving a group of Malayali nurses who were captured when the terrorists of ISIS took over the city of Tikrit, the hometown of former dictator Saddam Hussein, in 2014. The news caught the attention of the country as everyone was worried about their safety. The film followed the horrifying experience of the nurses and Indian government’s efforts led by one daring diplomat, played by Fahadh Faasil.

Actor Parvathy Menon played the central character called Sameera, while Kunchacko Boban played the role of her husband, Shaheed.

The trailer of Tiger Zinda Hai showed that the film centres on a James Bond-esque spy called Tiger, played by Salman Khan, and his mission to rescue 25 Indian nurses from the clutches of ISIS. The film also stars Katrina Kaif as the female lead. It is the second film in the franchise after Ek Tha Tiger, which came out in 2012. The upcoming espionage thriller is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and is produced by Aditya Chopra for Yash Raj Films.

The film has been confirmed to hit the screens on December 22.
