PUNE: A godown containing wooden furniture was gutted in fire at Chand Tara Chowk at Mominpura in Ghorpade Peth during the early hours on Wednesday.
Fire brigade officials said a short circuit led to the disaster following which the fire spread across the warehouse. However, no casualty has been reported.
The sub-divisional officer from the fire brigade department, Saibaba Jilhewar, said, "A fire broke in the 1,000 sqft godown owned by businessman Anwar Hunair around 3am. But we received the information from a woman residing next door around 3.40am. Four fire tenders and three water tankers were rushed to the spot."
According to Jilhewar, "One team led by sub-divisional officer Dattatraya Nagaland sprayed water in the godown after breaking the shutter and the windows. The team managed to bring the fire under control within 20 minutes. We doused it off in 45 minutes. The second team sprayed water on the adjacent 40 houses to prevent the spread of the fire."
