Ministers continue to review relief operations

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu ministers continued to monitor and speed up relief operations in the flood-hit areas in Chennai and its peripheral areas on Tuesday.  S P Velumani, minister for municipal administration and rural development, accompanied by cabinet colleagues C Vijaya Basker (Health) and Nilofer Kafeel (Labour and Employment), visited several places, including Velachery and Pallavaram, to inspect flood relief works.

Later, he held a meeting with top government officials to review the progress made in flushing out stagnant water from streets and roads. He said 47.38 cm rain was recorded in Chennai city between October 30 and November 7. Stagnant water had been cleared at 180 points while efforts were on in another 89 places.
Minister for dairy development K T Rajenthra Bhalaji and the minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare V M Rajalakshmi reviewed the relief and rehabilitation activities at zone-12 of Greater Chennai Corporation (Alandur-St Thomas Mount), official sources said.

In Tondiarpet zone, Cooperation Minister ‘Sellur’ K Raju and minister for youth welfare and sports K Balakrishna Reddy visited flood-affected areas and monitored the relief works. Fisheries minister D Jayakumar and Industries minister M C Sampath had a review session with IAS officers assigned for flood relief work in zone-5 to expedite the activities in Royapuram. At Arumbakkam, ministers ‘Dindigul’ C Sreenivasan (Forests) and M Manikandan (Information Technology) visited several places to expedite the relief works.
