NORRISTOWN >> The so-called “off-term” elections Tuesday featured several competitive races in the central Montgomery County area, including positions on the Norristown Area, Upper Merion Area and Methacton school boards and municipal and mayoral races in Conshohocken, West Conshohocken and Bridgeport. Several municipal and township council seats were also decided in East and West Norriton, Plymouth Township, Whitemarsh and Whitpain.

Listed below are the latest unofficial election results posted to the county’s electoral web page:

Norristown Area school board

In the Norristown Area, where seven candidates competed for four open seats on the school board, Democratic primary winners, Shae Ashe, Jamila Winder, incumbent Matt Rivera and current board President Turea Hutson, ran as a slate against Republican primary finalists Kathleen Bello, John C. Holland and John Maxey, who ran as a Democrat but won enough votes through cross-filing to appear on the ballot for the general election.

With a total of 75 percent of the vote in at press time, the Democratic ticket appeared poised for a sweep. Rivera, with 4350 votes; Ashe, with 4,312; Winder, with 4,182; and Hutson with 4,154 votes were well ahead in the ballots counts.

Methacton school board

In Methacton, eight candidates competed for four seats on the school board. Republican primary winners Candy Allebach, Karen S. Vavra and incumbents Herb Rothe III and Brenda Hackett squared off against Democratic primary winners Liz Drummond, Mary Hull, Ralph Navarrete and Jennifer Cancro, a Republican who was one of the top four vote-getters in the Democratic primary and ran on a slate with the Democrats.

With 64 percent of the vote tallied at press time, Cancro, with 2,381 votes; Hull, with 2,370; Drummond, with 2368; and Navarrete, with 2,328 were leading in the count.

Magisterial District Judge

The race for district judge between Democrat Marc A. Alfarano, an East Norriton Township supervisor, and Republican primary winner and Montgomery County Detective Michael Altieri was too close to call at press time, with Alfarano leading with 50.7 percent of the vote, or 3,132, compared with 49.28 percent, or 3,044 votes for Alteri, with 93.75 percent of the ballots counted.

The county website indicated a voter turnout of approximately 20 for most races.

Updated Results for the races above, as well as municipal contests in Norristown, Conshohocken, West Conshohocken, Whitemarsh, Bridgeport, Whitpain and East and West Norriton, will be posted on the Times Herald website, timeherald.com, as they become available.
