Pune: The city unit of the BJP on Tuesday claimed that efforts were still on to encourage cashless transactions, while the opposition parties would stage protests on Wednesday in protest against the note ban initiated on November 8 last year.

The NCP has planned demonstrations in the city in the presence of former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar. A senior leader of the party said, "People are still facing problems in digital payments."

BJP's city unit president Yogesh Gogawale said: "It cannot happen in a small time period. We need to change the mindset of people. The city has certainly witnessed a significant rise in cashless payments."
