Coimbatore: DMK MLA N Karthik visited Irugur-Ondipudur railway-over-bridge on Tuesday. Due to lack of street lights, road accidents have become common in the area, he said.
"More than five people have lost their lives in accidents on the bridge, which was inaugurated in November, 2015. I have received several complaints from people about the absence of street lights on the bridge. It is a 598m long with 7.45m wide roads with not a single street light on it. Also, there is a 3.75m wide service road located under the bridge," Karthik said.
The DMK leader said he had complained about this to the city corporation commissioner and the highways department. "The service road is also damaged and needs to be relaid. The corporation and the highways department should take steps and lay the road and set up street lights immediately," he said.
