CHANDRAPUR: Social organisation Shramik Elgar has lodged a police complaint against Minister for Water Resources and Medical Education, Grish Mahajan for insulting women during his address at a public rally in Nandurbar recently. Mahajan had allegedly made a statement, "Give name of women to liquor brand, it will help in raising liquor sale", during a function orgnanised at Shahada.

President of Shramik Elgar, advocate Paromita Goswami claimed that a minister making such public statement is an insult to women. She charged that Girish Mahajan, as a minister is a custodian of the Constitution, but spoke of women with utter disregard and insult. While addressing the media at Press Club here, on Sunday evening Goswami claimed that as per the provisions under sub-Section 47 of the Constitution, the government is supposed to implement liquor ban in the state, while Mahajan has acted against it. She said that the police have taken the complaint and have informed that offence against the minister in question would be registered only after receiving legal opinion from the higher ups on the issue. Goswami also demanded removal of Mahajan from the ministry. It was also informed that she would file a complaint against Mahajan with the state governor seeking his removal from the post.

Mul police said that the written complaint from Goswami has been received and forwarded to higher-ups for legal opinion as there were no specific clauses under which the complaint could be registered under routine process. The complainant alleged that the minister had violated sub Section 47 of the Constitution during his speech and there are no specific clauses under which the complaint could be registered. Goswami has warned of staging agitation if FIR against the minister is not registered by Monday evening.
