more-in

Various farmers organisations under the aegis of All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKCC) have planned to hold a “Raitha Mukthi Samsat”, a parallel Parliament, in New Delhi on November 20 to highlight the plight of the farming community.

More than one lakh people from across the country will take part in the programme, Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) State unit president G.C. Bayya Reddy told reporters here on Tuesday.

Fixation of minimum support price for agricultural products in accordance with the M.S. Swaminathan Report and waiver of all farm loans are the major demands to be raised at the Raitha Mukthi Samsat. The resolution adopted at the Samsat will be sent to all MPs and they will be urged to enact a law to ensure minimum support price. “Minimum price should be fixed on (C2) cost of crop plus 50% profit formula as suggested by Dr. Swaminathan”, Mr. Reddy said.

More than 10,000 farmers from Karnataka will take part in the protest, he added.

KPRS district unit general secretary T.M. Venkatesh, and Kolar taluk unit secretary V. Narayana Reddy were present.
