Nagpur: BJP spokesman Mohan Bhandari who is touring the region to highlight achievements of his party's three years rule in the state and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis' initiatives, kicked off a new controversy saying ally Shiv Sena had no role to play in it.
"This is the BJP government and all credit for the good work goes only to Fadnavis and his ministers from the BJP. One should remember that the Sena joined the government at a later date and Fadnavis won the vote of confidence in the legislature on his own without the Sena support."
Talking to reporters, Bhandari said the Sena was free to highlight the work of its ministers. "They can evaluate why ST employees went on strike, what all they did in MIDC, if the malnutrition problem is under control or what new has been achieved by the state environment ministry," he retorted, referring to the portfolios Sena ministers hold.
The BJP and the Sena are ruling partners but have been at daggers drawn at least in public perception because of the constant criticism of the BJP government through editorials in Sena mouthpiece 'Saamna' and remarks by its spokesman Sanjay Raut and Udhav Thackeray.
Asked how long this political drama of BJP silently suffering daily humiliation by its ruling partner Sena would continue, Bhandari said it was worth noting that no Sena minister or legislator criticised or ever threatened to pull out of the Fadnavis government in last three years .
Bhandari who has also toured parts of Bhandara, Gadchiroli and Nagpur districts said Fadnavis government had done commendable job of speedily developing infrastructure and also in sectors like agriculture and irrigation. When pointed out that party MP Nana Patole was also now slamming the Fadnavis regime, the spokesman said the Bhandara-Gondia MP had this habit of striking a discordant note against whichever party he was in when he is nearing a fag end of his elected term. "In his constituency, people asked me why Patole did little for them and was going around the country blaming the government," said Bhandari.
