GUWAHATI: City police on Monday busted a fake Indian currency note (FICN) printing racket at the Hatigaon area here.

A huge cache of sheets with denominations of Rs 2000, Rs 500 and Rs 200 notes printed on them and other printing materials were seized from a house in Hatigaon's Minhaj road. "The value of the seized notes is over Rs 1.7 lakh. Some of them are still on printed sheets and not cut to the size of currency notes. The seized items include colours, chemicals, printers and other logistics too," police sources said.

Surprisingly, at least three suspects running the racket managed to flee the spot minutes before the police raid. Eyewitnesses said one of them jumped off the terrace of the building when police raided the house. The suspects were identified as Jamil Ahmed Mazumdar, Ajmal Hussain Laskar and Jiyab Ullah Laskar from Hailakandi. "Police were informed by the landlord of the house where the suspects were living on rent. While making a regular visit, the landlord saw the fake notes and alerted Hatigaon police," sources said.
