A 67-year-old woman was found dead in Virar on Monday night, a day after she went missing. Police have arrested a debt-ridden widow for her murder. Kirtinidhai Sharma, an insurance agent living in Poonam Imperial, an apartment complex in Virar west, had left home at 5.45 pm on Sunday. When she did not return home, her son registered a missing person complaint at Arnala police station. The police found her body outside an apartment at Global City Complex on Monday. The police said her gold jewellery, Apple iPhone and iPad were missing.

Investigations revealed that Sharma had gone to meet a woman she befriended recently at a beauty parlour. “On Sunday, the accused asked the deceased to come to her, claiming she wanted to purchase an insurance policy,” said Jayant Bajbale, Sub Divisional Police Officer, Virar. He added that the accused, who is 45 years old, is a widow struggling for money.

“Her children are currently studying and she does not have enough money to make ends meet,” said Bajbale. ENS
