Karimnagar district stands third in state in institutional deliveries, says Collector

After the opening of 150-bedded Mother and Child Health Centre (MCHC) in Karimnagar town, the institutional deliveries have gone up 320 per month to 620 per month with the availability of adequate staff and facilities, District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad said.

Addressing media here on Tuesday, the District Collector said that even the middle class sections can avail the state-of-the-art facilities at the MCHC for deliveries and take home the KCR kit. “If the patients from middle class sections do not want to stay in the general ward, they can avail special rooms costing ₹500 per day and not only are there no charges for the delivery of the baby but also medicines are provided free of cost at the hospital along with KCR kit,” he explained.

Crores saved

Over 620 deliveries in a month in the MCHC had helped society save to the tune of ₹7.5 crore. If the deliveries were conducted in private hospitals, the families would have been charged between ₹25,000 and ₹40,000, he noted. Karimnagar MCHC ranked third in the State in deliveries after Nalgonda and Sangareddy districts, he said.

The government had made elaborate arrangements for the availability of gyneacologists and nurses round-the-clock by roping in the PG students and House Surgeons from Prathima Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and nurses from other nursing colleges. Besides, the recently launched midwifery course at the hospital had also come in handy for the round-the-clock services for the pregnant women. Besides, by January 2018, they would start DNB PG courses at the government headquarters hospital which would also ensure availability of PG doctors at MCHC, he said.

The hospital is equipped with two peadiatric ventilators and one ventilator for pregnant women, the Collector added.
