Enrolment in Anganwadi centres to pick up

GUNTUR: In order to create better amenities for children at the Anganwadi centres in Guntur, 246 Anganwadi centres have been pruned to 99 through merger.The Women and Child Development Department with the coordination of GMC officials have been taking steps to create better amenities at Anganwadi centres.

The merger plan will usher in multifaceted benefits like improvement in learning outcomes and provision of supplementary nutrition in spacious and hygienic conditions. The officials are planning to develop the centres with all amenities like playing equipment, wall paintings, LED TV, furniture, sports kits and uniform for children. 

The GMC officials have already developed 16 Anganwadi centres by collecting donations from locals. The child development project officer will supervise the Anganwadi centres from time-to-time. The GMC officials identified that 19 Anganwadi centres require school buildings after the merger and the GMC revenue department is on the lookout for new buildings.

The GMC engineering department officials are preparing a proposal to start renovation works in 67 Anganwadi centres after collecting donations from locals.GMC commissioner Ch Anuradha said they would ensure quality education to students through Anganwadi centres. GMC additional commissioner K Ramachandra Reddy said the officials of engineering and revenue departments are making all efforts to offer holistic education to children.
